  1. I am VERY much of two minds on this.
First of all, in pretty much every state I’ve been to that allows grocery stores to sell booze, there’s been an hour at which you can’t buy the stuff anymore (NYC is an exception, to the best of my knowledge).
When I go to other states, I see such a wide variety of beers, hard liquor, and wines available at liquor stores and groceries I wonder what the hell is wrong with PA. The fact is, if I want good wine, I cross the river. When it comes to beer, the situation’s even more ludicrous. A lot of times I’d like to try something new, but who wants to invest in a case of something they may not like? Who wants to spend almost as much as a case on a six-pack? And never mind the general ignorance/incompetence of your average state store employee. In my neighborhood at least they couldn’t tell you the difference between Cherry 55 And Chateau LaFitte.

I feel bad for the union workers, I really do. But the fact is the state store system is a relic of PA’s prohibitionist past. The state should have NEVER been in the business.

If the PLCB ran the stores well and provided the same variety I find in NJ, NY, DE and pretty much every other state I’ve visited, it would be a different story.
