Iraq has always been a happening place. Babylonia, the Chaldean empire, Iraq—whatever it’s called— was home to the Garden of Eden, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Hammurabi “The Law Giver” and Ur. Ur was the birthplace of Abraham (Abram) “the father of nations.” His son Isaac founded Israel and his son Ishmael founded the Arab nation. All of western civilization flowed from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. And we in the United States were silly enough to believe that we were going to teach these people how to live?
Yes, it was a fascinating place.
But I don’t think that, after a couple or three millennia, they are really the same people.
