HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – The Pennsylvania Legislature will be led by massive Republican majorities – including the biggest House GOP majority in more than 50 years – when Democratic Gov.-elect Tom Wolf takes office on Jan. 20.
But for two weeks before he takes office, those majorities will be sworn in and intact under outgoing Republican Gov. Tom Corbett, a fact that has not been lost on Republican Party backers.
That means it is still legal and possible – albeit technically challenging – to enact far-reaching legislation favored by many Republicans that Corbett might sign, but that Wolf had said during the campaign that he would oppose.
People who have looked into it could not find a precedent for such a move in modern Pennsylvania political history, but that does not mean it cannot be done.
“For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” The state of Florida is run by wingnuts too. For example the Orange County School Board has allowed a conservative Christian group called World Changers of Florida to distribute Bibles in public schools on three different occasions. Now comes The Satanic Temple who has requested permission to distribute coloring books featuring Satanic rituals in those same schools. The Satanic Temple is following the lead of the Central Florida Freethought Community which distributed atheist materials in the schools in 2013. Needless to say the Orange County School Board has only two choices: 1) ban all Christian, Satanic, atheist, etc. material from being distributed in their schools or 2) allow all recognized religions or anti-religions to distribute their material in the public schools. “If you can’t beat them then join them.” Get creative in combatting the wingnuts.
America is in for a horrible time. Rethugs have wanted revolution, letting them destroy America will ensure it.
