As an archaeologist, I know exactly why preservation laws exist. Damage to irreplaceable historical patrimony by walking, climbing, even just breathing causes irreparable damage and has to be controlled. That said, to stand in a place and see a view that’s been seen by only a relative handful of all of humanity? I probably would have done it . . . 40 or 50 years ago before the knees and back and lungs went, and then climbed down to do the time as well worth it. Whether this jamoke had any such lofty thoughts, probably not.
