  1. “The past sure is tense” was actually a Robert Fripp lyric, these many decades past. My favorite excerpt from the song is, of course, “You burn me up, I’m a cigaret.” “You want my attention, which you’re not going to get. You make me nervous. Ooh, ooh, ooh I’m nervous!”

    I’m not really certain if Captain Beefheart ever said it. Best guess is no.

  2. I guess that “The past sure is tense.” actually belongs to the Cap. the song I was thinking of was written by Robert Fripp with Daryl Hall.
