The Kochs want to rewrite the Constitution. Will they succeed?

Koch Brothers Campaign Circus Hires A New Pitchman - Scott Walker

The Wisconsin Assembly votes Wednesday on whether to call for a convention to change the U.S. Constitution. While that in itself is surprising — the American people have never exercised their legally enshrined right to convene a new Constitutional convention — what’s more surprising is that pro-business groups with ties to the Koch brothers have pushed…

  1. There’s a weird group of guys (Fritz Hoevels mostly) who call themselves the Ahriman group, or the League against conformity (Bund gegen Anpassung) who besides the occasional conspiracy theory often have something interesting to say. Anyway their hypothesis is that the world wide conservative movement is not simply about keeping labor cheap, as some might think, but is in fact a ‘long play’ at reversing the 19th and 18th centuries, the separation of church and state, the freedom of individual conscience, the universality of truth and of certain ethical standards as well as the labor movement more broadly. ‘Your body belongs to you’ as the social democrats put it pre-WWII and which the Nazis denied.

  2. We are in the midst of an ideological war.

    >Capitalism versus Socialism.
    >Right versus Left.
    >Centralized Wealth versus Wealth Equalization.

    >Oligarchs versus “We the people.”

How oppressive this war becomes is entirely up to the plutocrats.

Hopefully Pence is paying attention to all of this because in a short time he will be sitting in Trumps chair.

  3. The term limits idea isn’t bad. But seriously – who doesn’t think if this happened the Tea Party type zealots would come away huge winners? The loss of control of so many states to ultra-conservative ideologues is a huge problem for this country.

  4. If you think the Electoral College is bad because it is mathematically possible for 45% of the country to impose a President for four years on 55% of the country, you will love the Constitutional Convention process where 40% of the country in 38 states can almost permanently change the Constitution over the objection of 60%.
