Pa. Supreme Court strikes down congressional map as unconstitutional

PA progressives made a real effort to turn out the vote in the last judicial elections (which normally has abysmal turnout), and yesterday it paid off. Because enough Dems turned out to take all the open seats, and we got this ruling:

PHILADELPHIA — The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled Monday that the state’s congressional map “clearly, plainly and palpably” violates the state constitution and blocked its use in the May 2018 primaries.

Now, here’s the thing. Unlike North Carolina, this ruling is based on the state constitution and there’s no basis for a federal appeal. And although Repugs have announced they will appeal to the Supreme Court, SCOTUS is unlikely to grant cert and hear the case.

Unless, of course, they decide to do a Bush v. Gore and make up some new rules — again. Stay tuned.

  1. The Republicans unwittingly gerrymandered Trump into office and the stupidity of the Democratic neo-liberals allowed it to happen.

The loss of over 1000 Democratic public officials in local, state and federal elections, which allowed the Republicans to gerrymander everything in sight, began with Bill and ended with Hillary.

Either the Democratic neo-liberals were too stupid to see what was happening around them, or they were complicit in the act.
