Demanding a vote on Dreamers, and did the whole thing in 4-inch heels. What an accomplishment! The New York Times:
WASHINGTON — Representative Nancy Pelosi, the House Democratic leader, took to the House floor at precisely 10:04 a.m. E.S.T. Wednesday, intent on speaking about the young undocumented immigrants known as “Dreamers.”
More than seven hours later, she was still talking.
Her marathon monologue — highly unusual for the House, which has no equivalent to the filibuster in the Senate — came as Republicans are scrambling to pass legislation to keep the government open. A short-term funding bill expires on Friday.
Ms. Pelosi has said she will not vote for the measure; she is protesting its lack of protection for the Dreamers, young immigrants brought to the country illegally as children, who have been shielded from deportation by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, an Obama-era initiative that President Trump has suspended.
Her talk was quickly dubbed the DACA-Buster on Twitter. (Twitter users also noted, in admiration, that six hours in, Ms. Pelosi was still wearing her four-inch heels.)
For hour after hour, Ms. Pelosi, 77, read heart-rending testimonies from Dreamers who had written their representatives about their lives. There was Andrea Seabra, who is serving in the Air Force, and whose father was a member of the Peruvian Air Force. And Carlos Gonzales, who once worked as an aide to former Representative Mike Honda, Democrat of California. And Al Okere, whose father was killed by the Nigerian police after he wrote in a newspaper criticizing the Nigerian government.
At one point, perhaps running out of stories, she suggested she might turn to the Bible. “Perhaps I should bring my rosary, blessed by the Pope,” Ms. Pelosi said.
All of the Kabuki dancing by the establishment Democrats is growing tiresome.
Pelosi’s performance art yesterday reminded one of “They Shoot Horses Don’t They?”
In order for the Democrats to get $120 billion in ‘new’ funding (over 2 years) for our children, the sick, and the poor, the Democrats had to give the warmongers (in both party’s) $180 billion in additional military spending.
Aside from throwing our faux-dictator, Trump, a giant military parade, what is Mad Mattis doing with all of this money?
Yesterday Mad Mattis ordered his minions to kill more then “100 pro-government (Syrian) fighters” at a cost of millions of dollars.
What crimes were being committed by those 100+ human beings that warranted their deaths at the hands of Mad Mattis? (Apart from the fact that they were Hezbollah fighters and Israel hates Hezbollah?)
These 100+ pro-government Syrian fighters were trying to reclaim Syria’s largest oil field from the US backed Kurdish terrorists who had stolen it.
Good on Nancy, standing up for the dreamers. But she didn’t get the commitment she demanded from Ryan to bring Dreamers protection to the floor for a vote. Was it all just Kabuki to cover for the Dems’ fold (again) on the Dreamer issue? This was so predictable after Mattis went public excoriating Congress not passing long-term funding for the military. That’s the same military that operates 800 bases in 70 countries around the globe, spending more than the next eight countries combined.
Defense Department? Don’t make me laugh, it’s not defense. It’s all about the increasingly failed attempt to militarily project Imperial America worldwide. Meanwhile Russia is eating our lunch in Ukraine and MENA because they base their policies on the realities on the ground, not on neo-cold-war, neo-con delusions about American exceptionalism in the New American Century.. At the same time China is projecting their military power in the South China Sea, playing their own cards in NKOR, and building infrastructure worldwide, most importantly land routes across Asia to the ME, Russia, and Europe.
Sorry, Dreamers, you fall victim to deep state delusions of omnipotence and Dems’ cowardice and deference always bowing before our Republican and military Daddies who work day and night to keep us safe and domestically impoverished.
