The Blockade

Matthew Yglesias:

Matthew Yglesias » What The Gaza Blockade Means: As I’ve noted before, in the eyes of its defenders the blockade of the Gaza Strip is a security measure aimed at denying rockets to Hamas, while in fact it’s a comprehensive effort to collectively punish Gaza residents—a majority of whom are children—in hopes that this will somehow lead to Hamas being replaced by a more moderate regime. Yousef Munayyer’s rundown of the consequences of the blockade makes the point clearly. For example, “In 2006, Israel carried out an attack on Gaza’s only power plant and never permitted the rebuilding to its pre-attack capacity (down to producing 80 megawatts maximum from 140 megawatts).” I suppose one could try to construct a defense of what the policy actually is, but instead most people seem to prefer to defend something else. Of course Israelis don’t want to be hit by rockets, but why shouldn’t Gaza’s civilians have electricity?

Because they bombed them back to the Stone Age, silly!

One only has to compare the number of missile attacks Israel faced, both Pre- and Post- Blockade to recognize the complete and utter nonsense of this claim.

The people of Gaza could live in peace and prosperity if they just got rid of Hamas.

    This isn’t rocket science, people…

  2. One really needs to keep in mind..

Israel is NOT the aggressor here.

    No way, no how…

    Michale….

  3. Rose,

Again, all by your stupid propagandizing self.

    Ya know, Rose…

You MIGHT try and actually address the facts, rather than simply resort to childish and immature name calling.

Tell you what. I will make it REALLY easy for you.

Pick one fact that I have put forth that is not true. Find ONE factual statement that I have made that is untrue..

If you can do that AND back it up with facts of your own, I will never post to this site ever again…

The only other stipulation is that you must do it without any childish personal attacks and immature name-calling.

If you can accomplish this successfully, you will never see me again..

    Balls in your court.
