I was thinking about mandatory voting over breakfast, and then Lambert left this link in the comments.
I think, on the whole, that mandatory voting has got to be the right’s worst nightmare. Because it’s a hardcore 25% or so who end up dictating the most extreme policies, and the lower the turnout, the more amplified those extreme choices are.
And obviously, if voting becomes a legal responsiblity, all those cute little voter suppression tricks the right-wing thugs so favor become federal crimes of a higher magnititude.
