They do get break time, you know. And it was cold and windy during that storm. Don’t they have some rights to get warm… garbage trucks aren’t exactly SUV’s and they aren’t very warm. And that Republican city councilman has began walking back his statements, i.e., he wasn’t told that garbagemen “weren’t directly told not to work…”
What they’re not disclosing is that workers were told not to report until the next morning, so the city could avoid paying triple overtime for the holiday. Which is stupid anyway, because if Bloomberg had declared the snow emergency, he could get FEMA reimbursement.
