Well that judge just created an off-ramp for the defendant out of whole cloth, and is building up the stand your ground case law to get to where stand your ground was intended – the right of white men to kill non-white persons with impunity and immunity.
The castle doctrine or right to defend yourself and home required you to actually be in your home, not someone else’s. Had the dead guy stood his ground, I’m fairly certain he’d be on trial as a cop killer.
The good news is that regardless of what the jury decides, this murderer will never work in law enforcement again.
Well paint me surprised -the jury unanimously found the defendant guilty of murder. Further, some have suggested that the judge’s ruling regarding Castle Doctrine may in fact have been to preclude an appeals court of overturning the case. I got no complaint. I wish peace and Grace for the family and friends of Bothan Jean.
