Here’s how I discovered this song: I was listening to “progressive” rock station WNEW in the 1970s and to my surprise John Lennon showed to be a guest DJ. He joked and chatted and answered a bunch of questions from the regular host.
At one point Lennon was asked who he was currently enjoying listening to. He said “ELO. I know they’re sort of ‘son of Beatles’ but I like the songs” etc.
So being an impressionable teenager I went and bought “Eldorado” and that was my introduction to all things Jeff Lynne.
