We’re Number One

See, all those front end problems in my car aren’t my fault:
For the second consecutive year and the fifth time in a decade, truckers say Pennsylvania has the worst roads in the country, according to the annual Highway Report Card survey conducted by Overdrive, the nation’s leading magazine for owner-operators.
Among the chief complaints: the conditions of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, I-78 and I-80 and poor signage. Owner-operator Bernard Linkhauer said Keystone State highways “will beat and bang you around. The Pittsburgh-area resident said repairs along the turnpike amount to a Band-Aid. “It looks good, and it lasts a little while, but then it’s back to square one.

Americanism. Look into it.

Back when I lived outside Philly (Trevose), the main route was called the “Sure-Kill Expressway”. People told stories about being able to tell when they crossed the state line blindfolded. Sounds like it hasn’t changed much since then.
During Christmas I drove I-78 from the Jersey border to Carlisle, where I picked up the Turnpike (I-70) to New Stanton, then took I-70 about 25 miles further west.
Man, those roads are just as evil as I remember them…
The day after I drove back east an overpass fell onto I-70 near its intersection with I-79. Fortunately, no one was killed, but it made me wonder how many other overpasses are ready to crash down on unsuspecting travelers.
I have driven in every state but AK ND and HI. I have to agree with the truckers. The roads in PA are getting better. All new construction requires things like shoulders and on ramps. PA now has to make thier interstates the same as the federal requirements. I think for a while they had a grandfather clause.
