Who were they?
Why were no Democrats there?
Were they invited?
Why weren’t they invited?
If no Democrats were invited, it was political.

Lurch, Blumenthal was there. Nancy Johnson (R), Chris Shays (R) and Rosa DeLauro (D) were not there, as the base is not in their Congressional District. It’s Rob Simmons’ (R) district, hence his appearance. The governor was there, and Chris Dodd was invited, but had another obligation (remember, he’s running for President in ‘08.)
There was an identical event at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine the same day, attended by local Congressmen, Senators and governors from both parties, from both Maine and New Hampshire. Some are in tough re-election races, but portrayed the event as non-partisan.
I despise Lieberman more than most due to previous campaigns where I’ve had to deal with his miserable staffers, but it only undermines Lamont’s credibility to have his supporters cry wolf at the sight of every prairie dog. Let’s stick to the real issues - there are enough we don’t really need to make any up.
