A very serious error on my part -
The “oh, shit” link (the post is from Suburban Guerilla) is to an article about Hillary Clinton, and the clear implication is that Hillary has proposed barring homeowners from suing predatory lenders. If that’s true it is not borne out by the linked article…
There is nothing in the article to support the contention that Clinton is trying to bar the homeowners from suing. Clinton is talking about people who invested in the sliced and diced mortgage backed securities. I.e., she is turning the Republican guns back at them, since it is the fat-cats (well, slightly less fat now) who would be thrown out of court.
We Democrats have to stop beating up on our own.
I’m not any less pissed about a potential Democratic nominee proposing tort reform, but I made a serious and inexcusable error. I am very sorry for misrepresenting Senator Clinton’s position.
I try to approach politics as honestly as I can, all the while making obvious my biases so as to make the intentions of what I write clear. I really screwed the pooch here though. It was the worst sort of stupid mistake I could have possibly made. I posted a snap judgment based on something I’d read too quickly, and quite clearly misread. I can’t even explain how stupid I feel.
Just for the record, please do note the byline on this post and the one in question. This screwup was mine (Chris Baldwin) and mine alone. I apologize to Susie for making it on her site and to anyone who read it.

Hey, shit happens. It’s really difficult to keep up with all the nuances of this stuff, especially when you have A Job.
Nice apology. Will you be more willing to give her the benefit of the doubt next time?
Let’s hope her plan to name Alan Greenspan to the panel trying to figure out the whole mortgage mess is also a mistake.
votermom, yes and no. I don’t think it’s ever a good idea to give any politician, even ones I like, the benefit of the doubt, so I don’t think my general outlook there is going to change. That said, I’m going to stop giving myself the benefit of the doubt . There is enough crap in the record of any politician they all have made enough bad policy proposals, that there is never a need to mischaracterize or lie about anything. That’s part of why I’m so upset with myself over this. My intention wasn’t to mislead, lie or otherwise obfuscate, but through my own sloppiness, the result was the same as if it had.
What you just did isn’t easy. Well done. I had to be nudged into it the first time it happened to me, and boy was Leah ever right.
Thanks Lambert. That really does mean a lot to me.
