  1. And the reasons? Some economists (seems like the ones interviewed for this article) say — lack of skills or mismatch of skills.

Did I miss that lack of consumer ability to purchase in the article?

As Barbara Garson notes, if the average worker’s income rose only $4 per year over nearly 40 years, how the hell can they continue to make the same kinds of purchases? At first, the wife joined the workforce, then the children as they could, but, now, there’s massive and continuing unemployment and the vast majority of earnings going to the elites.

Who can be the consumers now? Except for utter necessities? Pretty soon, rummage sale prices are going to be going up. I haven’t been to one lately — any comments on the rummage market?

  2. What I’ve noticed is the boom in dollar stores on every street corner and in every strip mall. They’re building free-standing ones in my area, too.

I do a lot of thrifting and those are popping up all over as well.

  3. All of the stupid T-baggers bought gold, guns, and Bible’s when Obama became the president. Has anyone seen much gold being spent at their local grocer lately? Or in the thrift stores? The idiot FOX watchers are sitting around in their bunkers with their gold bars, guns, and Bible’s waiting for the Second Coming instead of being out spending greenbacks. These right wing fools are screwing up the economy and then blaming it on the Left.
