Patrimonial

Recommended gift link: @jonrauch.bsky.social says the kind of government Trump is installing can best be described with the aid of an old term from sociologist Max Weber's day: it is not precisely autocracy, oligarchy, or monarchy as such, but a patrimonial system. /1

  1. Interesting article. But –wow– a real “We won’t discuss the War” situation.

They talk about everything except the misogyny / sexism / stay-on-top-of-women motivation that feeds the whole thing. Even though it’s right in the name they’re using! _Patri_monialism.

It’s what makes all these balls of slime recognize each other from across the globe.

Jan 11 2017, Sady Doyle, had a good article on that very point: https://www.elle.com/culture/career-politics/a42042/putin-trump-and-julian-assange-sexism-politics/

I guess the problem is that once you see that huge framework pulling everything out of whack, you can’t unsee it. And it has way too many immediate implications for everybody’s personal lives. It’s horribly unpleasant to notice it.
