Have you tried Mozilla Thunderbird email client? It works very well, and it’s free. I’ve been using it for years. You can access all of your email accounts from a common interface.

I agree with you, SM, much too much space to suit my taste and use… BUT, you don’t _have_ to use the new appearance. Just choose the old “classic” look.
It’s only a choice and it’s yours to make.
If you don’t like it; don’t use it.
