From today’s L.A. Times, a story about impending civil war in Iraq:
BAGHDAD — Explosions rip through marketplaces, scattering blood and vegetables and leaving women wailing in the alleys. Bodies bob in rivers and are dug up from garbage dumps and parks. Kidnappers troll the streets, sirens howl through morning prayers and mortar rounds whistle against skylines of minarets.
Iraqis awake each day to the sounds of violence. With little respite, many wonder whether strange, terrible forces are arrayed against them. They fear that weeks of sectarian and clan violence, claiming the lives of all types from imams to barefoot fishermen, are a prelude to civil war.
“I’m worried 24 hours a day,” said Zainab Hassan, a university student majoring in computer science. “Whenever I hear bomb or shooting, I call my mother and husband to check if they’re OK. I can see a civil war coming, it’s obvious. Everybody is talking about it. We have to be more careful.”

This ‘instability’ is exactly what the neo-conservative cabal wants.
Their core goal, in these resource wars in the Middle East, is to control the flow of oil — monopolize it, or keep other emerging industrial states from monopolizing it. The goal is to establish puppet governments in the Middle East, or just let things fall apart, until even a puppet government is acceptable to the populace.
Our next resource war starts in two weeks, when we bomb Iran. The goal of the bombing is not to surgically remove Iran’s nuclear capability. Even Rumsfeld has admitted that these facilities are too spread out, and too well bunkered, to remove by any amount of bombing.
No, the neo-conservative publicly stated goal in bombing Iran is ‘instability.’ So that the “American hidden inside each Iranian” can rise up against their Muslim leaders, and claim their natural McFreedom, and welcome the United States back to meddle in their affairs once more. They will kiss us and throw flowers, too.
Then we’ll cause ‘instability’ in Syria, and Lebanon. More kisses and flowers.
And lo, Greater Israel shall rise amid these tottering Islamic societies like a shining city on the hill, establishing its military and economic and political influence throughout the backward and poverty-stricken Muslim nations surrounding it. With America’s constant support and funding.
Right now, America is busy making these Muslim nations surrounding Israel backward and poverty-stricken so Greater Israel can lead them forth from the wilderness we’re puttin’ ‘em in.
These neo-conservative ideologues are insane, especially in that they are going to do the same thing, and expect different results.
What we have, and have had for a while now, is one group of armed Iraqi citizens attacking and killing another group of armed Iraqi citizens, and vice versa.
Sure sounds to me that the civil war started a couple months ago. MSM just doesn’t want to call it that.
antifa’s point is a good one. I’ve spent months (years?) wondering how this government could be so stupid about not planning for looting and chaos. It’s gradually coming to me that maybe they aren’t stupid. Maybe this is what they want. They did, after all, have no trouble protecting the oil ministry and making defense of oil installations a priority.
I really don’t know what’s worse: being in the grip of corrupt idiots or being in the grip of corrupt dictators.
