The Boy King finally got around to declaring a state of emergency.
And yet, he spoke live to the nation this morning about Rehnquist’s death.
What’s the big hurry? I mean, he’s already dead, right?
UPDATE: Okay, this was declared earlier. I was wrong. It still doesn’t explain what took him so goddamned long to do anything.

wait a minute… i thought he declared a state of emergency before the hurricane even hit? don’t get me wrong, i’m not defending a single thing about the total fuck-up that has been this non-response to the flooding, etc., but i’m confused….
The good news is that President Bush cut his vacation short (despite the several day delay) to handle this crisis.
I hope his vacation went well. We need a well-rested president to handle a major crisis like the one we’re facing now, and if that means taking 50 vacations over a 6 year term, so be it.
I see no reason why the President has to be located in the White House. It’s simply not important for him to have face to face meetings with his most trusted officials. If those officials need to take a plane trip to go see the President in Texas, so be it. The President of the United States travels for no man, regardless of the productivity implications.
As far as I’m concerned, I’d rather have a President who prays frequently, than a “brilliant President who is truly compassionate. Historically, prayer has always been the one thing that has separated great men. You could take a man with an IQ of less than 100 and make him president as long as he prays.
President Bush is a hero. The American people were so intelligent for electing him. You can tell he really wants the job, and has the mental capacity and drive to make our country great.
Is it me or do others see that gloating look on his face anytime Gorgie boy gets things his way. He had that look today when he talked about how great the need to replace Rehnquist as soon as possible. He had that look when he turned to an aide standing off camera and made a remark about vacation time at the ranch. The number of times that I have seen that look seems to be getting more and more often.
I imagine he will have that look for a long time to come when he leaves office with his pensions from not only the federal government but from the Texas state government. Not to mention that his ranch will be taken care of by the federal government because he his is a retired president. And he will have a lifelong security detail assigned to him.
I would hate to think about what he will do when he suddenly starts getting all the subsidies from the contractors that he helped get employed by the government.
Just had a thought. Why not move the refugees into the White House since he seems to want to spend so much time at the ranch. He could also set up a tent city on part of his ranch so he could have a ready photo op set up for his use.
Read the fine print: he declared an emergency on Saturday, August 27th. Which is important because it gives the lie to the claim that FEMA had to wait for the states, parishes, counties, cities and townships to fill out the appropriate paperwork in order to trigger federal involvement.
Please, Susie–look before you leap. The same is true for the Halliburton rebuilding New Orleans story, which turns out to be Halliburton rebuilding Naval facilities in Louisiana and Mississippi. If you get the details wrong, you just make it easier for the apologists to change the subject.
