And yet, no one had time to check out the reasons we went to war in Iraq. Hmm:
Gov. Bill Richardson is coming clean on his draft record — the baseball draft, that is, admitting that his claim to have been a pick of the Kansas City A’s in 1966 was untrue.
For nearly four decades, Richardson, often mentioned as a possible Democratic presidential candidate, has maintained he was drafted by the Kansas City Athletics.
But an investigation by the Albuquerque Journal found no record of Richardson being drafted by the A’s, who have since moved to Oakland, or any other team.

Yeah, big Bill got caught on a little one. My husband said that, in those days, the baseball draft was a 70- or 80-round affair, and it’s not surprising that some stuff got mixed up. But it’s another sign that he’s padding the resume a bit.
Caveat emptor.
I’m gonna give him the benefit of the doubt. Richardson claims he genuinely believes he had been drafted by the A’s, and I don’t see any reason not to take him at his word.
I’m puzzled as to why the Albuquerque Journal bothered to sniff around in the first place, and what they aimed to accomplish with the article, one way or another. Something tells me that if their research had not debunked Richardson’s claim, there would have been no article. Is the Journal a right wing rag with a hard on to nail the Dem governor?
What now? Are the good people of New Mexico supposed to be indignant? Were Richardson’s claims a slap in the face to the brave, selfless, young men who proved their mettle on the field of baseball in far off corners of the globe like Cleveland, Detroit, and Baltimore? Are they going to run a “swift boat” ad with Rollie Fingers and Vida Blue?
