Forgiveness

An example for the rest of us:
Just two guys, hanging out, talking about sports and video games. See Kobe’s 81 points? Best player in the game today, one says. No way, says the other. It’s Iverson. Always Iverson.
They talk about the Super Bowl, the pros and cons of T.O. When one plays a game of “NBA Live 06″ on Xbox, the other gives tips. There’s nothing remarkable about their camaraderie.
Except one of the men, paralyzed from the neck down by a bullet 2-1/2 years ago, is strapped into a wheelchair.
The other is one of the people responsible for putting him there.
I always have to remind myself: Nothing is unforgiveable. That’s what forgiveness is for - the unthinkable. As I get older, it gets harder. But I keep trying.

Have you seen Murderball?
Documentary about wheelchair rugby. Brutal sport, great film.
Part of the film revolves around one of the athletes and his relationship with the guy who put him in the wheelchair.
What I learned from reading Leon Uris:
Without forgiveness, there is no redemption. Without redemption, there can be no future. Only the past happening over and over again.
Susie, you are a very fine writer.
