That was certainly swift. Washington has a way of quickly acculturating people, especially those who are most susceptible to derangement by the derivative dignity of office. But Jim Webb, Democratic senator-elect from Virginia, has become a pompous poseur and an abuser of the English language before actually becoming a senator.
I just spit my granola all over the keyboard when I read that. Talk about pro-JEC-tion! Mr. Will, who is that pompous poseur in the mirror?
Nice to see the Usual Media Suspects are lining up to keep Jim Webb in line. Imagine the horror, if we had senators running around actually saying what they think! Why, we’d never be able to have another cocktail party.
UPDATE: I did notice that Will left out a pertinent part of the quote, but that’s not really news, is it? The Beltway Bobbleheads do that sort of thing all the time, so maybe I’m just jaded. In any event, here’s Josh’s take.

Exactly. Mr. Will would never post the obvious, that shrub Bush is the ultimate boor, the ultimate abuser of the English language. Wingnuts never disappoint us. They are forever looking in the mirror and calling more liberal fold what they see. Thank you, Mr. Will.
What a prig. If I was Will, I’d watch my back while making the DC cocktail circuit.
My favorite part of the column was the one word paragraph:
“Well.”
I hope Mr. Will recovers from the his fainting spell soon, so he can write more columns we can laugh at. The guy is a pompous ass.
By the way, Susie, when I go to this site Acrobat reader loads up.
Acrobat? Weird…
Wordy Will and President Stick-to-the-Script never fail to amuse. A month walking patrol in Baghdad would sharpen up their comedic timing, tho.
Might also teach them to show some respect to the parents of our servicepeople in Iraq.
I thought that Will should have put in a “I never” after the “Well.” My word does Will titillate!
OMIGOD!!! A new senator dared to not do the goose step with the inside the Beltway Crowd. I am so sick of the GOP telling the Democrats they are spineless wimps. So, here we have a man (Webb) who adheres to his principles, and the media starts the hit pieces with “he’s a pain,” meme (thanks to some fellow Democrat who wishes to remain nameless).
George Will, stick it. Jim Webb is doing precisely what we elected him to do. Jim stood his ground, no wimps here.
Imagine if Webb had answered the President’s impertinent inquiry, “How’s your boy?” in kind — with the same breezy dishonesty, disrespect and over-familiarity:
“Fine. How’s your girls?”
Or
“Tired. He’s on his third tour. How’s your girls?”
Or
“We’re proud of him, Mr. President. How’s your girls?”
Or
Enjoying the war, Sir. How do your girls like Argentina?”
