If there’s one thing you have to say about Helen Thomas, she’s consistent. She doesn’t see why Obama should be the Democratic nominee (and she doesn’t like bloggers):
“We’re in the midst of a presidential campaign which is really getting rotten - down and dirty between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama,” Thomas said. “The Democratic candidates - Obama has the edge, he’s a rock star. He’s galvanized the youth vote of this country, but I have yet to see what he has done to take the highest office in the land. He is no Martin Luther King and his campaign, like all others, is backed by people with deep pockets.”
When I interviewed her about a year and a half ago, she said:
She think it’s too early for Barack Obama to run. “I’d like to see him be less cautious. He walks too cautious a line, just like Hillary,” she said. “It’s a question of courage. I’ll go for Barack Obama when he says something that indicates he has some.”

Well, what would Helen Thomas know? She’s just another dried-up old bag with only 60 years experience covering American politics. Just another low-information, postmenopausal Clinton backer voting with her vagina. (In case you can’t tell, I’m being sarcastic.)
Love Helen! She has been around long enough to be able to sniff out bs when she sees it.
I just wish more journalists today lived up to the ethics Thomas cites. The NYT’s role in ginning up the war is just as disgraceful as anything done by any blog - really more, for it has the far larger audience.
Sometimes Ms. Thomas and I agree, sometimes we don’t, but one thing’s for sure. You get what she thinks, not some freakin’ meme.
yeah, i disagree with ms. thomas on this one, but that doesn’t alter the enormous respect i have for her. for a while she seemed to be the only real journalist in the white house press pool. i hope she stays around for a long long time.
