Tornado picture taken by Lori Mehmen from her porch in Iowa:
A huge tornado funnel cloud touches down in Orchard, Iowa, The Globe Gazette and Mitchell County Press News reported that Lori Mehmen of Orchard, took the photo from outside her front door. Despite the death and destruction in the Midwest, the weather has only gotten half the attention that has been given to the death of a pompous reporter at NBC News.
But then, the news is always about them, isn’t it?

Wow! Now THAT’s a picture! But, get down to cellar quick Lori!
Wow, if that wouldn’t make someone think “the wrath of god is upon us” nothing would. It actually looks like something reaching down with intent. How did Lori get that shot???
Humbling. Looking directly into the face of the power of nature.
I saw similar.

I admire someone who can take that picture without any camera shake!
I’m fascinated by tornado pictures and that’s a great one! Still, part of me is yelling, “What the f**k is wrong with you! Get in the bloody basement.”
When I was around 12 or so my mom would laugh at me when I’d go down to the basement during tornado warnings. Her philosophy was that if it was going to get her, it was going to get her. I countered emphatically that if was going to get me, it was going to have to come and suck me up out of the basement.
Very appropriate title!
Tornadoes (tornados?) blow very hard, but Timmeh was an even bigger blowhard, therefore the heavy coverage of his demise is completely warranted.
I love midwesterners. That tornado siren goes off, and we’re all out there in the streets, watching.
Good way to get to know your neighbors, and if they’ve got the “right stuff.”
That link has a photo up now of BUILDINGS and debris floating in the Cedar river.
