Because my apartment is not quite large enough to hold 20 people for the bridal shower, I’m planning to put a lot of the food and seating in my backyard.
I just saw on the news that it’s going up to 97 Saturday. Gulp. Well, I do have a canopy - and a wading pool.

No mayo or shrimp and make sure you have a lot of ice. When you think you have enough ice, buy more.
Use boiling water to kill the plants, then sprinkle corn starch on the ground in that area.
If you have the funds (and hopefully more than one outside tap) - set up hoses with sprayers set to the ‘mist’ function. I use the trigger-type sprayers with the little thingy propped open to cool the dogs in the summer heat. When there’s a little breeze or it’s very hot, you don’t even feel the mist, but it does cool the air. There are misters made specifically for canopies, which you could probably find in Philly, but I imagine the cost would be much more.
ps - the coil-type hoses work well, mainly because you can wind them around upright posts. i got mine a couple years back on sale for about $10, including the trigger and extra connectors - probably $15 plus these days, sad to say…
Some places, possibly Home Depot, have metal hose attachments that will spray mist only, called misters I think and are often used for greenhouses. I used to attach the hose to the top of something, a canopy would be good or even a tree branch, and turn on the hose. people would go under it and mist themselves just enough to cool off, the droplets are small so they don’t get drenched. A couple or three around the yard would be much appreciated.
Save yourself the worry and expense. Just slip a little acid in everybody’s drinks and give them some poison ivy to play with. They’ll forget all about the heat. You won’t even have to cook.
Finally, a practical solution! thanks, Chris!
I should become a party planner.
I could see that!
