What’s amazing, however, is that they’re getting away with it.
If the plan was actually understandable it might have had a chance. Really it’s that simple. Krugman seems to forget that until Brown won not ONE Republican vote was needed for passage. What was witnessed was a fight inside the Democratic Party on full display. If this “reform” was soooo wonderful this fighting would have never taken place.

If you look back at past Congressional power shifts, you’ll see this happens no matter who’s in control. Parties are always more united as a minority. There’s one exception: The Republican congress under Bush. They always voted in lockstep, which is so contrary to history and basic human nature, I suspect he blackmailed them.
