By the way

Another fucking derecho, and this one is huge. (Although not as powerful as the last one.) It’s basically a land hurricane, and it’s the same kind of storm that knocked all the power out in several parts of the country a few weeks ago. So bring in the patio furniture and hunker down if it’s heading near you.

Oh, and if I stop blogging, my power’s out.

  1. Better go get some ice and batteries!
We were out for five nights in 90-degrees weather during the last one.
Lost the whole fridge full of food.

  2. We the last one went through here the electric company said that these storms were extremely rare, nobody could have predicted, etc., etc.

I don’t think New Yorkers are going to be quite as docile and polite as us hillbillies were in the aftermath. I doubt that living 50 miles from a world center of civilization they will take well to waiting two weeks for the power to come back on.

BTW I will help when you report an outage if you can look around the neighborhood and find a wire that is actually broken and down on the ground. They will respond to this faster than just saying your power is off.

  3. Did they have derecho’s 12 thousand years ago? If so they were probably caused by the excess heat given off by roasting meat on open fires. Had fire been discovered 12 thousand years ago?

  4. Thanks for the warning, Susie. We’re in for a rough night here in central NJ. It looks like all of the storms are pointing in our direction. We’ve already had one moderate thunderstorm and the lightening is flashing and bearing down on us. I’m recharging my 12v battery and making sure the iPad is charged as well.
Plenty of food on hand. Lots of boxes milk. Will probably make home made mozzarella tomorrow. Thank god we have a pool to go to if it gets unbearably hot tomorrow.
Batten down your hatches, susie. It’s going to be a bumpy ride.

    (You’re a cute little troll, aren’t you?)
Interesting question, actually, and it got me thinking about paleoclimate with respect to weather.
Given that derechos are not all that unusual …

    I’m pretty sure there were.
Weather has been happening for a long, long time.
Stay safe and dry out there, everyone!

  6. Hope all are well and with necessities, like electricity.

Here in my area of northern NJ suboonia, we missed some of the big winds, but a lighting strike hit a huge tree a couple blocks away and tore away about half the tree which then took out the electrical wires. Oh, and we didn’t get all that much rain which is sorely needed.

Electricity back on after about 2 hours, so not too bad.

Since I’ve been using only fans, having no moving air was…really, really hot and sticky.
