Is it just me?

Or is this a little… overblown? Everyone at Notre Dame is so upset about a Notre Dame football player being punked (the school even hired a private investigator to look into it.)

The school didn’t hire an investigator when Lizzy Seeberg reported being raped by a football player. She ended up killing herself. Hear about it? Didn’t think so.

You probably didn’t hear about the other student who was too afraid to report her rape after she saw how Seeberg was treated.

Just how fucked up priorities on college campuses are was vividly demonstrated at Penn State. If they didn’t care about the rape of little kids and got righteously pissed when those who covered it up got the axe, they probably don’t even remember those outrages, let alone have a sense of shame.

No, it’s not just you. When both my local news and CNN reported this as a major news story this morning, I was like, “Why do I care about this?” I’m sorry if he was hurt, but why is this a major news story? WTF?

Notre Dame was involved, as was the less-than-brilliant “student”-athlete himself, at the very least from December 6. A cover-up and a pull-at-your-heartstrings con so that ND could snag a Heisman – that’s what’s important about this story. Yes, it dwarfs in comparison – but anything that shines the light on the corruption in college sports is fine by me.
