Logic

Tweety really did a good job backing Marjorie Dannenfelser of the deceptively-named Susan B. Anthony List (it’s an anti-abortion group) into a corner with the same question I always use with them: Do you want to see women go to jail? Your mother, sister, daughter, cousin, friend?

If they’re going to push for these fetal personhood laws, then by God, they should be ready to talk about the inevitable legal consequences. Are they really so illogical that they never bothered to think about the outcomes? It may indeed not be their intent, but women will indeed go to jail. If that’s what they want, they should say so.

And if it isn’t what they want, well, it’s time to rethink their position.

  1. Do you really want to see women go to jail? Then decriminalize the use of Mar-i-ja-wana./ I strongly oppose abortion. Is my opposition to abortion wrong? Are my deeply and sincerely held reasons for opposing abortion not germane to the discussion? Must one either absolutely support or conversely absolutely oppose abortion? Are there some issues that can not be addressed by law either for or against? I am also strongly opposed to war and to capital punishment. To be consistent isn’t my opposition to abortion the only one that I can hold?

  2. Well, as has been said for ages, “if you are opposed to abortion, don’t have one.” The argument that a harlot is killing a person drives me crazy. It’s about control over a woman’s health and, in a lot of instances, her economic welfare. Women are going to seek abortion, legal or not, that is a reality. Putting women in jail or facing dire consequences from illegal abortions? I hate the idea women losing their citizenship after conception….. And what about the sperm donors? What consequences for them?
