For all intents and purposes Cardinal Mahoney has been defrocked. But, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger whose last job was to oversee the disposition of all sexual abuses cases between priets and laypersons was elevated and become Pope Benedict XVI. That wasn’t because Ratzinger fairly adjudicated the sexual abuse cases brought to his attention. He did not. What he did do was to protect the Church agaist all charges at all costs. He spent billion$ to shut people up. His reward? Well, he is the Pope. In all endeavors and more often than not the worst of the worst become our leaders.
