  1. Of course, no ‘high tech’ country with ability to ‘back engineer’ stuff that ‘from the heavens to the earth came’, and since they’re so highly ‘moral’ they would never actually USE it for any reason. It sure wouldn’t matter to them that their fav. FASCIST pwResident was feeling pressure from the Spanish court just because the courts didnt’ get the memo abt. ‘non-prosecution’…………………….noooooooooooooooo that sure could never, never happen.

  2. Astrology is bullshit. I will never read your blog again, sad, because I liked it but the embrace of nonsense makes all liberals look bad. I cannot and will not support it in anyway.

  3. It’s bullshit because you’ve studied it and know it’s bullshit by extensive and careful use of the scientific method – or you “know” it’s bullshit because you “intuitively feel” it is and tell yourself it’s not even worth the time and effort to prove it? Because, you know, that would make you a hypocrite.

In any event, I don’t consider myself a liberal. I’m a working-class radical and I don’t really seek the imprimatur of the intellectual class.

  4. It would take a few years but the claim that astrologers can predict earthquakes could be tested fairly easily. Recruit a couple of astrologers and have them email predictions of the date/place/strength of future earthquakes to a mailing list or directly to interested researchers and observers. After a few years there would be enough quakes to see if the predictions match up.

Astrologers haven’t done this and don’t appear to have any interest having their claims tested. In contrast, they tend to make fuzzy and changing predictions of when a quake will occur and only vaguely specify where or how strong…

  5. How am I supposed to take you seriously when this is exactly what astrologers already do? How do you think I knew about it?

Once again, a “scientific” type pronouncing a predetermined conclusion without actually applying scientific method.

Susie, would you mind pointing me to some examples of that kind of thing? I ask because I did a quick Google of this topic a ways back and don’t recall having found anything like that.

Since my search-fu is not ultimate, and not all knowledge is available via Google (yet), I’d be interested in seeing what evidence you’re familiar with that I’m not.

  7. No. I’m not going to squeeze 25 years of reading and research into a blog comment, nor am I going to take the bait. Why not be intellectually honest and admit there’s nothing that can convince you? You’ve already decided what you think.

  8. Sorry, but that’s just not fair. I don’t know much about the methods or practice of astrology, but what I do know about it doesn’t inspire me to devote much study to it.

But I’m not asking you to teach me a course in astrology. I’m merely asking, in honest-to-god good faith, to point me in the direction of some scientific evidence of the success of testable astrological claims. Because I’ve looked and I can’t find any. But, like I’ve said before, it’s not a topic I devote any substantial amount of time to.

You, on the other hand, apparently are much more familiar or expert in your knowledge of astrology. It really shouldn’t be so burdensome to say “So-and-so studied astrology and earthquakes, and found xyz.” if you are familiar with the field.

I don’t know how you decided that no number of precambrian rabbits could convince me of the efficacy of astrology. I think if you knew me, you wouldn’t say something like that.

In any event, I’m not looking to get into an argument. If you know of anything online that would be relevant to this discussion I’d be interested in seeing it. That’s really my only point here.

I can only assume the stars have told you everything about me. You know not the first thing about what I have read, and yes as a matter of fact astrology has been tested through the scientific method, and it fails to live up to what its promoters claim it is capable of, but I’m sure you have probably ignored all of that due to confirmation bias. Whatever, think what you want, no skin off my nose. Sorry I misidentified you as liberal, a lot of liberal blogs link to your site.

This is a good example of what I am talking about. Not that I expect you to read or believe it, or have it alter your opinion. But it’s not as if astrology has been ignored by science. Anyway, this wasn’t meant to be an attack on you, and I know it came off a bit harsh. I still won’t be reading your blog but did want to check back on the comments here. The other stuff you write about is pretty good.

Anyway, it’s not like it’s hard to guess that there is going to be a major quake at anytime. Mere chance allows me to do that without any astrological information.

Promise, I’ll leave ya alone now.
