A powerful tornado-like storm (they’re still arguing over what to call it) moved through New York City shortly after 5 tonight, killing at least one person. Damage is widespread, thousands are without power. I finally did get hold of my son and he’s okay.

In your earlier posting about rain, I commented on the storm and the way the wind was driving the rain. I had to close the living room windows; even though they face SSW, the rain was driven into wall and windows — 8 to 10 feet of terrace to those windows. That’s hardly happened in the 10 years I’m in this apartment.
