  1. Same thing with unemployment. During the high unemployment of the past year, the organization for which I work raised the academic requirements for stay-in-school student employees to keep their jobs or to be hired new. A ‘buyer’s market’ was how it was stated in meetings I attended. When it was pointed out by several supervisors (to their credit) that using the changed requirements to dismiss kids who’d been working with us was unethical (or bullshit as some put it), executive leadership looked at the room like somebody farted.

  2. Oh, I know. I was a recruiter after 9/11 — hiring managers wanted the moon and stars because they knew people were desperate for jobs.
