Guys in music circles are often sexist douchebags, and I remember one time a musician I knew told me Sam Phillips “couldn’t” have written her own songs because they were too good — that her then-husband, T-Bone Burnett, had to have written them and “let” her put her name on them. Uh uh.

too true on the sexist musicians. I host an old time jam every tuesday with quite a few women (three just started their own showcase last night, which is awesome). There are some male musicians I simply will not invite, and if they show up, I’ll ask them to leave.
