It reminds me of when a debt collector calls and threatens to do all kinds of things that he can’t really do legally to scare you into making a deal to pay him of. It takes some nerve and a little bit of understanding of what the rules are to stand up and defy him. I said, “Fine, if you want to sue me, go ahead. You can take everything I have if you want it. I will pile it all up on the porch and give you the keys to my car. But I doubt you will get $2,000 for the whole mess.”
I knew a guy once who had a saying that, “A lawyer’s first job is to scare ya. If you don’t scare, things take a long time.”
