My friend says it’s well known all politicians are crap, so ignoring them is the only way to survive.
Which tends to set me right back on my heels, even tho’ I’ve heard it before from this friend. How to break through?
Jawbone, if you ever figure it out, let me know. I have a disabled relative who is on Medicaid, receives food stamps, welfare and gets food at the food bank to supplement her small job income. When I suggest to her that next election she actually vote I get the same answers – all politicians are crooks, none of them care, neither party wants to change anything, etc. While I agree with some of her complaints, she’s currently living in the state governed by Chris Christie and is starting to talk about how she resents all those public employees with their big salaries and pensions. Wonder where she got those ideas? I’m guessing she won’t get mad enough to get involved until Christie completely does away with all the social safety nets her life depends upon.
Leonard Cohen reference?
When I start telling a good friend about some new egregious action by our political Powers That Be,as Dave mentions about his friend, I get told to “Just stop it, don’t want to hear, I have too much to deal with in my life and I can’t deal with these things on top of it.”
