With Afghanistan? No. There was no alternative. It could have been conducted more efficiently, we could have caught OBL at Tora Bora years ago, we should have got the economy back together as quickly as possible and gotten out but there was no choice about going in and kicking the snot out of al Qaeda and the Taliban. To not do so would be to give other crazy ass countries permission to behave badly. That being said, we should have been out of there years ago.
Iraq is a whole nuther story. That was cOmpletely unnecessary in every possible way. Never should have gone in. I was adamantly opposed from the beginning of that catastrophe.
So, Chomsky’s only partially right. There’s a limit to pacifism. That’s why nations have armies.
