  1. This is the kind of thing that happens when you let the Capitalists run ‘anything’. You would think that if ‘demand’ is outstripping ‘supply’ that some vampire venture Capitalist company, like Bain, would step in and construct lots of new power generating plants. Except that won’t happen unless they are allowed to pollute the air and water, and force people to work for slave wages. Maximizing profits is the name of the game. So, “the state” should own, control and run the energy industry, the power generation plants and grid, and all related entities. Then put the untouchables (in India’a case the actual untouchables) in charge to combat and prosecute any corruption that rears its ugly head.

  2. The “world’s largest democracy” fails again to provide basic services for its citizens in times of crisis. Libertarians would say that it’s time to privatize, cut taxes for the wealthy, and slash government services to the poor. Austerity always works except when it doesn’t Just ask the UK.

  3. If we keep neglecting to properly maintain the transmission grid or to enlarge and improve it, we could very well have huge blackouts across wide regions of the country. In the rush to deregulate electric utilities we did not plan for the grid’s maintenance and upgrading as we should have. Maybe we won’t have that many people losing power but we could a few million at a time.

  4. Well, India IS the test bed for what Our Corporate Masters hope to implement in the US over the next decade.
