Drudge

In case you came late to the story, Drudge drove all the major “news” coverage of everything for quite a while:

The Washington Post‘s Jennifer Rubin interviewed Tim Miller, executive director of a new conservative political action committee centered on opposition research, who reminisced about how conservative operatives successfully used blogger Matt Drudge to push debunked or thinly-researched smears against Democrats in 2004, describing it as a “great model” that needs to be updated.

In a March 24 post at Rubin’s “Right Turn” blog, Miller described his organization, America Rising, as being dedicated to the “collection, dissemination and deployment of opposition research against Democrats,” and uses Drudge’s DrudgeReport.com circa 2004 as a model to return to (emphasis added).

Go read the whole sorry mess.

  1. Nice. Now we have a handle for them whenever we mention them. Every time they come up with a new hoax, we can identify them–and hopefully liberal commentators can be encouraged to follow suit–we can identify them as “self-discredited hoax purveyors” whose reports “serious journalists” would never entertain as being real “news.” If we just made it known that any news talker on cable TV repeating their allegations will get pie in their face, TO their face, nothing they or their conduits “report” will get air time. Also makes an effective threat against local news people, whom they can get to through devious means to plant stories. “Gullible local beat reporter swallows debunked “America Rising” hoax hook, line and sinker. Will update when the report is retracted.” “UPDATE: Two hours and counting, no retraction from W— news broadcaster. Spokesperson for W—still not returning calls.” “UPDATE: Four hours after the initial report of a hoax as ‘news,’ W— spokesperson says statement will be forthcoming.” Etc., etc.

  2. So, was Tucker Carlson’s getting the three Dominican prostitutes to lie about Menendez just a warm up for this kind of oppo “research? As in, if you can’t find true dirt, just make shit up?

  3. ding ding ding ding! We have a winner! Their tactics whiff of despair. Unless the attack is tied up with something the press really wants (hint hint . . . raiding Social Security) I suspect they won’t go along with it.

  4. See my comment to ‘War Whores.’ The credibility of Corporate media is dead. Why do you think they’re working so hard to ‘control’ the internet. The only reason any of this has come out is because of so-called citizen reporters like Suburban Guerrilla. In the Parasite media, you hear the conservative meme or silence.
