I used to have a friend who worked for OSHA, and he told me flatly that he’d never seen a worker death (or severe accident) that wasn’t caused by a safety infraction. This is one of the worst stories I’ve seen.

Sounds like negligent manslaughter to me. But who will care? Our parasitic Corporate owners are too ‘big’ to jail. Prosecution is unlikely, I’m sure that Rahm E. and the factory owners are on a first name basis. If there’s a civil suit and they are penalized, I’m sure one of the owners judicial golfing buddies will reduce the penalty. American capitalism: aren’t we all better off?
NPR recently ran a story about deaths in grain silos and OSHA’s lack of enforcement of safety regulations. As I recall, they said that 80% of fines are reduced, and there are virtually no criminal penalties for sending someone to their death in a grain silo.
