Senate Kabuki

I wouldn’t be anywhere near as thrilled about this as some people are. (Remember the public option?) It was a voice vote, and that also means the Senators who allegedly oppose the chained CPI are just as likely to turn around and vote for the cut when it counts. Don’t assume.

That’s why it’s important that you continue to contact your senators and tell them you vehemently oppose any changes to the funding formula for Social Security, and any increase in co-pays or deductibles for Medicare.

  1. It’s people like Nancy Pelosi who give the 1% and the corporate media the cover that they need to give to the rich by stealing from the old and the poor. Pelosi has said on several occasions that she could support chained-CPI “under certain conditions.” Call her office and raise hell. Bernie intends to filibuster any bill which includes chained-CPI. Call his office and offer your support.

  2. Harry Reid doesn’t let Dem senators hold effective filibusters — only Repubs silent threats are honored.

Bernie won’t get backing, and he’ll bend in order to not break.

  3. As in, we’ve seen this movie before with Bernie.
Not that I don’t like the guy, but he does not have clout.

Can we give it to him?

  4. I contacted mine, congratulating them on standing against an act that would kill vulnerable Americans and reminding them that continued opposition is the only thing that would result in their re-election.
