I’ve been a bad, bad boy

I was driving with my best friend and mentioned how much I loved this song when I was a kid. She said, “Do you think it had anything to do with your taste in men?”

“You mean, seeking out distant and emotionally unavailable men? Not a thing! Bitch,” I said.

  1. oh. Just the 80s-ish version of ’emotionally unavailable,’ which might be more modernly recognized as ‘otherwise and necessarily pre-occupied’ bad boy? Meet the new bad boy, on an entirely different trajectory than the old bad boy:

How to say? The New Bad Boy is a self-appointed (anointed?) guy who covertly tries to control women’s reproductive rights by setting them up with certain selected suitors. You know, fiddling around as though your personal magnetism was some sort of manipulable Rubix cube, until Voila, an arranged marriage, and the potential promise of teh making of teh bebbehs. With, of course, the added benefit of keeping certain wimmins from a life of hippie tree-huggin’ troublemaking. Or something.

I wouldn’t even know where to look in the archives for a song about that. I’m thinking the title would be something like, “Please compartmentalize my individually-sovereign energy into a cramped, static category for the purpose of prediction and and pre-arranging my personal life for me” – Said No Woman Ever. You just can’t make up this kind of male-feasance.
