Vigilanteism is a really slippery slope. It usually leads to burning books, and gassing millions of people.
Kind of reminds me of Aileen Wuornos. She, too, alleged to be a rape victim.
As long as you are kind of ok with killing doctors who provide abortions I have no problem with your stand.
Me? I think vigilantes are criminals and should be treated as such, regardless of what it is they are fighting. I do not have the right to unilaterally take anyone’s life – nor does the masked avenger – nor does Scott Roeder.
Is it vigilante justice when there’s no real police protection or justice system? In the presence of a corrupted, misogynist state, should women just lie back and take it?
Is it vigilante justice when there’s no democratic process involved and 5 men vote to allow a million and a quarter babies a year to be murdered? In the presence of a corrupted, infanticidel state should people of conscience just lie back and take it?
Now, I don’t believe a word of what I just wrote, but tens of millions of people do believe that deep in their hearts. And that’s the problem with vigilantism – I have never questioned your ability to rationalize means that create ends you approve of. I question why anyone would want to live in a society where every person got to be a judge, jury and executioner. Defend the masked avenger all you want; just understand that every word you use to do so can be used to justify what Scott Roeder did.
There was legislation and a judicial process that found abortion to be legal. Not quite the same as refusing to arrest and prosecute rapists.
Your rational for going all Paul Kersey is sound: the other person’s rational for going all Paul Kersey is unsound.
Got it.
Hey Diana, Huntress of Bus Drivers….I’ll buy you a ticket to India where perhaps you could set up some workshops to educate victims of gang rape in vengeance theory.
