My friends and I were such arrogant brats. While we were in high school and writing for the school paper, we once demanded a meeting with Jerry Stevens, a former AM DJ who was the program director at WMMR-FM, the BIG underground station in town. We told him we wanted him to play deep cuts from earlier albums by artists like Cat Stevens, not just their hits. (Like Matthew and Sons.) And he listened. He probably hated us!

I was lucky enough to be in Ann Arbor at the time, so we all listened to WABX, where NOT playing deep cuts was the exception. (Iggy debuted rough mixes of “Raw Power” on the station, with interview, fer fucksake.) Then some arsehole or other bought them around ’74, and it was never the same. *sigh…*
