As a mid-period Kinks *fanatic* (you know, from “The Kinks Kontroversy” to “Muswell Hillbillies”), I really fell out of love with them soon after…for one thing, Dave Davies started to try to be a “shredder”-style guitarist, and worse, Ray’s muse seemed to have left.
But she came back a few times, anyway–the sublime “Better Things” and this song, which is high in my list of favorite Xmas rock toons, and just a great song, period.
