I don’t even know what to say about this. I don’t believe in censorship, and it’s at the point where what Amazon decides controls the entire publishing industry.
I don’t see people demanding that cable empires stop selling porn. What’s the difference?
Treats employees like slave labor, spies on users more than the NSA and now wants to play moral arbiter? What’s an alternative to Amazon? I’d use em in a heartbeat.
I used to sell used books on half.ebay and ebay and Amazon. Ebay has demanded 500 pixels or more and I can’t seem to figure out why I can’t take a pic from another auction, Amazon, etc and that it won’t be allowed on mine because it doesn’t have enuf pixels, so I have given up on ebay which I used to like. Amazon has such an easy listing template and I can sell for 0.01 / book making what I want on the postage because I’m not greedy nor do I want to deep storing them.
Once on all these platforms I had an older book on torture through the ages which was non-fiction, historical, an interesting text for a historian. BANNED! And quickly. You cannot argue with software and contacts do not help much if you have a complaint. Yet 50 Shades sold very well, and we notice they didn’t start challenging until those sales were over. So they made their money before they got moralistic about it.
The June 17,2013 TIME with Ai WeiWei on the cover also had an article on the tech billionaires taking over as lobbyists and spending more money buying govt than any other corporations, so we can see where this is going eh. Zuckerman, Bezos, Apple, Gates etc are the big hitters now and I don’t expect them to be any less fascistic than their predecessors.
