Warren Buffett picks up Press of Atlantic City

Hah! A few years back, I was offered the managing editor slot at this paper. I started probing: How many MEs did they have in the past few years? Quite a lot, as it turned out. What was the problem? I asked. Well, it seems the old managing editor was still there, and the publisher wanted me to actually run the paper — but to make the old editor believe he was still doing it.

“No way,” I said. “That’s a recipe for insanity.” The publisher looked taken aback. “What do you mean?” I told him it was like bringing a new wife into your house, but telling her to pretend she wasn’t married to you. Probably the strangest job interview I ever had.
