New York (AFP) – US authorities have decided not to pursue criminal charges in connection with the phone-hacking scandal involving Rupert Murdoch’s media empire in Britain, his companies said Monday.
In statements filed with US regulators, Murdoch’s News Corp. and 21st Century Fox each said they would face no prosecution from the Justice Department.
Using identical language, the two statements said the Justice Department “has completed its investigation of voicemail interception and payments to public officials in London and is declining to prosecute” either firm.
The scandal which erupted in 2011 led to the closure of Murdoch’s News of the World after revelations that the tabloid had accessed the voice mails of a murdered schoolgirl, Milly Dowler.

Our Justice Department under Obama’s leadership has performed in exactly the way that the oligarchy has directed that it should. Case closed.
Here’s what pisses me off.
In Obama’s latest budget there are $1.3 billion dollars set aside to fight a proxy war with Russia. Most of that money is going to arm Ukraine’s military.
The US has already sent military generals, other military line officers, and black ops military intelligence and CIA operatives to assist the Ukraine military in fighting the Russians.
Obama admitted during his Super Bowl interview that the US played a major role in last February’s coup in Ukraine.
Now, because the pro-Russian separatists are winning the Civil War in Ukraine, the warmongers in the US want to send “defensive weapons” to that country. That is a clear escalation of the war.
We are very close to openly going to war with Russia and the press in this country is talking about Deflategate and Nationwide Insurance Company commercials.
I’m REALLY pissed about this. Murdoch’s media empire has been found heinously responsible if not outright guilty of breaking every privacy law in the UK. To think that they’re pure as the driven snow just because they’re in the US is a crock. I wonder if it’s because prosecuting Fox assholes would open the can of worms that is illegal spying by the US.
Murdoch, Ailes, & Co. have altogether too much power on both sides of the pond.
I’m afraid that no one will ever touch them.
